A traditional event
Describe a traditional event in your hometown.
You should say:
what this event is
when it happens
who participate in this event
and explain how you feel about this event.
Well, one of the important traditional events in myhometown is the temple fair, which has a very long history, probably datingfrom Ming and Qing dynasties. And now it usually occurs from the first to theseventh day of the first month on the lunar calendar. Chinese still lovevisiting temple fairs during Spring Festival and organizers are adding newelements to the events to keep pace with the times.
The temple fair is no less than a bunch of folksselling and buying goods. Temporary simple buildings pieced by regular plasticboards were casually scattered over the district designated for commerce. A lotof people stream back and forth across the path, leaving practically a narrowgap accessible by mere three people abreast(并肩的).However, these curious and patient purchasers seeminsensitive to the treatment of being packed like sardines .They must have beenfascinated by the superb collection of cheap and fine articles on display.Despite the low price, bargaining and passable quality do make the temple faira paradise for housewives.
Here, likewise, is labeled by men eager forentertainment and kids longing for snacks as heaven.(这里,也同样被寻求娱乐的男人和渴望小吃的孩子们誉为天堂。)There are dragon and lion dances, waist drum dancing,as well as other folk performances, and even some staged traditional weddingceremonies. Meanwhile, other actors on stilts(踩着高跷)reenact the scenes from classic Chinese literatureincluding “A Journey to the West”(西游记)and “Water Margins” (水浒传). Around the acrobats, people are shouting and cheeringin high spirit with their necks stretched to the limit in order to watch moreclearly.
Besides, snacks are generally cooked on site in theopen air. The rich and strong fragrance flows through the sky straight to theafar, luring anyone accidentally smelling it to come and have an extravaganttry of all the delicious food. The temple fair can be recognized as Chinesetraditional carnival(嘉年华), however lesschaotic and more peaceful.
For me, I like the temple fairs because there are somany games to play, food to eat and performances to appreciate. But mostimportantly, it is definitely a cultural experience, and allows people to seeChinese cultures from a very detailed perspective.
